Minutes for 2013-04-16
Attending: Nick, David, Peter, Steve, Mike F, Niklas
Nick explained that the vision for the workgroup had always included configurations that spanned multiple configurations managed by multiple independent configuration management tools - the heterogeneous or “best-of-breed” mix of tools in many organizations today demands that decentralized approach. However, the requirement for these “global configurations” had not previously been written down; Nick has now added an explicit description of this requirement in the Configuration Management Scenarios page.
In constructing a prototype to prove certain ideas for configuration management, including global configurations, IBM Rational came up with a number of questions and issues, and it became obviously that we were not ready to draft a spec without some ideas on ways to address those issues. Discussions and prototyping work continue, but progress has been slow due to the pressure of other work. As a result, the workgroup schedule needs to be readjusted.
Actions:
- Nick to update the schedule with new dates to replace the temporary TBD’s there now
- Nick to describe some of the issues and questions in this wiki, either on the Configuration Management Issues page, or on a new Implementation Reports page.
- Niklas may also be able to share some of his prototyping experience, as appropriate
