Hey Steering Committee folks,
Your webmaster here. I've taken the liberty to break things that you're
used to by rolling out the newest version of the wiki that will supported
the new OSLC governance model.
You'll find some basic details in a blog post here:
http://open-services.net/blog/new-wiki-in-testing/
Here are the particularly interesting changes for the Steering Committee:
First, your wiki that was at http://open-services.net/wiki/ is now here:
http://open-services.net/wiki/steering-committee/
Eventually there will be matching ones for the other workgroups (CM, RM,
and so on) but for now it's all Steering Committee.
Once you go there, you should notice an updated theme and layout. I've
designed it to match the rest of the site design, and I think it should be
overall more usable than the wiki you've been using the past few months. I
think it looks pretty OK (but I'm biased).
Next, the new wiki only allows write/edit access to people who are members
of the appropriate workgroup. Accordingly, only the six of you that are
members of the Steering Committee can now edit pages or create new pages on
this wiki.
In the next few days, I'd greatly appreciate if you guys could poke around
and let me know if you see any bugs. Just the basic stuff: make some new
pages, edit some existing ones, upload some files. (I can delete any
testing pages later if you want.)
If you run into any bugs (ESPECIALLY if you see a PHP error of some sort),
please email me directly: leereamsnyder at us.ibm.com . I think I've ironed
out most of them -- and now that I've said that something is sure to go
wrong.
If you have any feature requests, I'd appreciate it if you could post those
in the forums here: http://open-services.net/forums/viewthread/58/
Here's are some of the other smaller changes:
- I've reordered and renamed some menu labels to be clearer. "Title list"
is now "All pages", for example.
- There's now a "New page" button; making new pages should be a little
faster than before.
- The toolbar for editing pages now has a [[Link]] button that will guide
you through making links to other pages in the wiki.
- The "Go to page" form will auto-suggest existing wiki pages. (The
[[Link]] button for the editor will, too).
- In the sidebar, you'll find a list of "Contributing members". Anyone
who's edited a page on the wiki will appear on that list automatically, so
workgroup leads won't have to maintain it manually.
- Need a Table of Contents on a page? Use [TOC] and you'll get a nested
list based on the headings.
- Pages should display the date that they were last revised now. (You'd
think that would be a standard feature, but it wasn't.)
Thanks for your patience everyone,
Lee
