Hi All,

Here are some links I feel could be very useful in our efforts, especially
to define the Core properties and their RDF/XML representations that will
be needed by the ALM-PLM workgroup:

S-Ten Project - This seems to be very applicable. I know many of the
participants, they have been doing this work for a number of years, there
is a fairly large body of knowledge around how to use RDF/XML OWL to
represent STEP data. The main site is http://www.s-ten.net/, pay
particular attention to the Ontologies page at
http://www.s-ten.net/ontologies, at least Identifier and Version, probably
a number of others. The other very interesting sections are in their Tools
section, especially Semantic REST Database (SRDB)
http://www.s-ten.net/tools/srdb, and SemanticSTEP Viewer
http://www.s-ten.net/tools/semanticstep-viewer.

OntoSTEP - In another related activity, NIST has been working in parallel
on the same approach (there is much cross communication in the STEP
community). OntoSTEP http://www.nist.gov/mel/msid/ontostep.cfm, has a
plugin to Protege OWL editor that will convert STEP EXPRESS schemas and
part 21 datasets to OWL RDF/XML. The publication at
http://www.nist.gov/manuscript-publication-search.cfm?pub_id=901544 gives
a good technical discussion of the approach and the relationship to S-Ten
and other efforts.

There are numerous references in the papers cited above that provide great
background on the PLM world and how it's evolved. I'll follow with some
more focused attention on the specific concepts that I think need to be in
a Core properties set to support interoperability.
